CURRENT TARGET SHOOTING CLOSURES

You can help prevent wildfires by being safe while target shooting by using designated shooting areas and avoiding targets that could cause sparks.

One of the most popular pastimes in the Mount Charleston area is target shooting. Before you head out for a day on the range, make sure you know where it’s safe to shoot!

Shooting targets on public land can pose a significant wildfire risk. The use of firearms in dry, grassy areas can easily ignite vegetation and lead to uncontrollable blazes. Sparks from bullets hitting rocks or metal targets can quickly start fires that spread rapidly, especially in hot and windy conditions. It is crucial for shooters to be vigilant, follow all regulations, and use designated shooting areas to prevent accidental fires and protect our natural landscapes.

Here is a map of the most popular desert shooting spots that shows all the prohibited areas, including the urban parts of the Las Vegas Valley and surrounding areas. It is a general overview that provides a good guide to the restrictions in place.

For those who wish to shoot on an actual range with good facilities, but don't have a membership, the Clark County Shooting Complex is an excellent public facility with reasonable fees. It is run by Clark County Parks and is on the north side of the valley, at 11357 N Decatur Blvd, Las Vegas, NV 89131.

Remember, if you are shooting on public lands, you must be safe and also pick up their brass, and any trash or public lands will be closed.
